What counts as a powerlifting gym
A gym is listed if it hosts sanctioned powerlifting meets, if it's affiliated with a powerlifting federation or a strength program such as Starting Strength, or if it supports powerlifting and has at least one of:
- a monolift or combo rack
- calibrated kilo plates
- a competition bench
- a deadlift platform with a power or deadlift bar
Gyms without any of that equipment are left out.
Each gym carries one of three labels:
- Meet venue
- Has hosted a sanctioned meet or has one on the calendar.
- Competition equipment
- Lists a monolift or combo rack along with calibrated plates or a competition bench.
- Powerlifting friendly
- Supports powerlifting and has some competition equipment. We couldn't confirm the rest.
How gyms are found and checked
Gyms come from meet venues on our meet calendar, past meets named after their host gym, and federation gym lists.
We check each one against the gym's own website or social pages for its address, equipment, day pass, and whether it's still open. Equipment we couldn't confirm isn't listed. Each listing shows the month it was last checked.
